Workaholism and busyness are often glorified in today’s society, these practices will leave you overworked, exhausted, and emotionally depleted. Too much stress and pressure can lead to anxiety, depression, insomnia, heart issues, gastrointestinal problems, and other health concerns.

When life gets overwhelming, take time out for self-care. If you don’t make yourself a priority, you can get run down, burned out, and often ill. Self-care isn’t selfish. You should take care of yourself with the same love and attention that you care for others. Here are a few simple ways to practice self-care that don’t take a lot of time or money.

Landing In Lockdown Then Quarantine!

Landing In Lockdown Then Quarantine!

I found myself in a precarious position, I was forced into ‘lockdown’ in Victoria while visiting my father.  Along with all other Victorians I was sharing their plight in the cold of winter.

I have been known to say to my family, ‘no one is to die in Winter, get married, or have any celebration that requires my presence because it’s just too cold and I won’t be there for that.’

Indeed my trip to Melbourne was to only be for four days.  “Life Is What Happens When You Are Busy Making Other Plans, as John Lennon’s words ring out to me!”   I busied myself sorting out dads’ place by going through various cupboards, draws, storage areas, and more.  Preparing meals for dad, that were healthy and wholesome and enjoying his beautiful company while forced into a Melbourne Lockdown that came out of nowhere but, then when I think about it now, was highly likely to happen! Why buy an umbrella when the sun is shining?

Rain will fall, so if you don’t want to get wet make sure you have a good quality umbrella that you have easy access to, so you’re not left soaking wet!   You see keeping up with positive physical and mental habits is like buying an umbrella when the sun is shining!  This is my analogy for mapping out your day with ‘health deposits’ so that you are ready for the rain when it comes, and it will come, as sure as day becomes night.

You may be feeling wonderful now, you may even be the fittest you have ever been, but you never know when something can happen that can change all that in a heartbeat, and when that time comes, you want to have the best umbrella that money can buy! (more…)

Change Climate, Change Us!

Change Climate, Change Us!

As I look out at the paddocks and rolling hills around our property, I am reminded of the vulnerability of the bush, especially now with temperatures around 35 degrees outside, Camphor laurel trees swaying wildly with the increasing wind and desperately thirsty grass now crispy and brown as far as the eye can see.  It’s a tinder box, waiting to happen!

I had a conversation today with one of my friends who was forced to evacuate her home in the Tewantin area.  She borders the national park, which is thick and dense bushland. (more…)
