Hard Working Hunza People

The Hunza people are legends in the true sense of the word.  They have mastered the secret of old age, for which the rest of the world has sought so long in vain.  They have evolved a way of living, thinking, and eating that has substantially lengthened their life span.  They don’t have much money, yet they are not poor!  Nestled in an isolated corner of the Himalayan Mountains, HUNZA has been a land of mystery for more than two thousand years. The stories that have come to the outside world in the early ’60s told of a valley of eternal youth, capturing the imagination of every man and woman.

How is it that a tribe in north India and Pakistan, can live free of disease, reaching ages of 115 or more? How is it that these same men can father children at the age of 90? Can we explain Hunza women being just as energetic at 80, as Australian women age 40?  How does that happen? Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that their life in the tiny valley they call home, has remained untouched by civilization for more than 2,000 years!no jails or crime and no juvenile delinquency, yet the children of the Hunza Valley are not restless. When I was growing up, I had a very simple menu and very simple food choices.  My first meal of the day was cereal and If it wasn’t cereal it would be peanut butter on toast.

My dear mum meant well, but the cereal wasn’t the best choice and certainly is not what I would suggest today.

Our bodies are up against a lot of stress and a lot of ‘free radical’ attack, so if I can get some insurance and protection against the ravages of life, I’m going to chose green food every time.  You will see there are many ways of incorporating green food into your day.

One of the priorities of ‘My lifestyle choices now’ is eating and juicing and including green leafy vegetables into the family everyday menu.  It’s about getting the green on your plate!

While most of us know that lean protein and healthy carbs (like whole grains) give us energy, many are unaware of a group of superfoods that help our bodies process and unlock the energy from the foods we eat. These nutrition-packed veggies are easy to find, delicious, and have one thing in common—they’re all green!

Leafy greens and green veggies are filled with nutrients and power our health. Dark leafy greens, for example, are rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K as well as the B-vitamins essential to converting food into usable energy. With fibre, iron, magnesium, potassium and calcium, in addition to other beneficial antioxidants, these greens are true superfoods that can help you unlock the energy you need to tackle your to-do list.

Here are eight easy ways to add more green food on to your plate and into your life!

  1. Start your day with green by including veggies in your breakfast, like with a broccoli and cheese scramble on whole-wheat English muffin or by adding green vegetables to your omelettes.
  2. Place a bed of sautéed greens underneath your main dish, Veggie bake or quiche.
  3. Add natural sweetness to green veggies by combining them with fruit, like in broccoli salad with dried cranberries, or by roasting veggies to bring out their natural sugars.
  4. Amp up your side dish game by experimenting with new sauces or fresh herbs for green vegetables, like with asparagus salad with lemon-garlic dressing or crunchy cucumber-dill salad.
  5. Add kale or spinach to your soup or smoothie.
  6. Add lettuce and wild greens to your juices.
  7. Make sure you grow some fresh greens and make it easy for cultivating and harvesting.
  8. Use a powdered green of choice for when you are travelling or away from your usual routine.  We use Jade Green Zymes and/or Barley Life and several other brands.  Whatever your choice, just be consistent with it.

No matter what I always start the day with something green.  This simple habit has kept me well and happy for years!  Enjoy!
