Our immune systems are under constant threat with environmental changes that bring viral pathogens and many unknown responses, not to mention Stress as well. The most impactful way to protect yourself is to modify and change your environment and the way you interact with it.  Using a diffuser throughout the day and alternating the scents and smells around you that permeate into your body, affects many aspects of your humanness.

Aromatherapy can have many benefits on the body and mind because our sense of smell is closely tied to the part of the brain controlling emotions and long-term memory.

Inhaling the aroma of a diffused essential oil can powerfully affect the mind and body through the respiratory system.  Starting from the brain to memory, hormones, emotion, and ultimately cycling through the environment you move through.

The Magnificent Seven:

There are many effective essential oil combinations and blends, that you can go to for reprieve from all sorts of issues, from a severe headache to a stubbed toe, however when it comes to protecting your environment from outside and inside invaders, there are at least seven (7) essential oil singles and blends that we will focus on for your well-being.  These essential oils are used in the diffuser, applied topically and methodically, for protection and a very natural non-toxic solution to finding better health.

The first one of our ‘Magnificent seven’ is Lemon:  Lemon essential oil is energizing and cold-pressed from the rinds of the lemons.  The uplifting aroma means it’s perfect to diffuse in a bedroom when someone is a little unwell.  Although lemon is native to Asia it is grown and effectively cultivated worldwide. Uses - Place 1-2 drops of lemon on the palms of the hands.  Cup the hands over the mouth and nose, and inhale the aroma of the oil.  Lemon essential oil promotes health, healing, physical energy, and purification.  Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming.  Lemon oil is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by FDA (21CFR182.20).  Dilute one drop oil in 1 teaspoon honey or in 1 tablespoon of beverage.  Not for little ones under 6.  Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use.  Can cause extreme skin irritation.  Add 1 drop of lemon essential oil to 1 drop of fennel to a 500gm glass jug, add room temperature water, add warm to hot water and drink slowly.  Diffuse Lemon regularly to freshen any room.

Oregano: This is classified as a warming oil. Caution:  Never apply directly to the skin, unless you have diluted it or used a carrier oil like Fractionated coconut oil. Oregano is native to Europe but cultivated worldwide.  Oregano may help with colds, digestive problems, metabolic balance, obesity, viral and bacterial pneumonia, and can be used minutely on your pizza base to enhance flavour.  I say minutely because too much will ruin the flavour.  Oregano is strong and can be diffused or inhaled directly.  Can be taken in capsules and ingested internally because it is Food grade (GRAS) and used in cooking.  The body systems Oregano supports are the Immune and Respiratory Systems, Muscles and Bones.  It can be added to Fractionated coconut oil with just a few drops and rubbed around painful muscles as a direct result of viral or cold flu symptoms.  Oregano can also be used to carry out a mild parasite cleanse, by applying a few drops in a carrier oil, 3 times a day, directly to the stomach area.  Do this for 10 days.  For more information on this go to my blog on Parasites.

Peppermint: Ironically Peppermint is useful for helping people with *anger issues, arthritis, colic, depression, fatigue, food poisoning, hysteria, inflammation, liver problems, nerves, rheumatism, seizures, cooling the skin - so anything relative to the sensory system.  Toothaches and throbbing headaches have all been assisted or helped by Peppermint.  Peppermint is extracted by steam distillation process from the flowering herb.  The aroma uplifts, peps you up, and cools you down when need be.  Add 2-3 drops of Peppermint essential oil to a 150gm glass spray bottle, top up with water.  Use this as a spritz when you are experiencing hot flushes, or feeling the heat.  For more information about Peppermint or to purchase a 15ml bottle separately click on this:  I want to know more about Peppermint.

Tea Tree:  The leaves of the Tea Tree (Melaleuca) has been used for centuries by the aborigines to heal cuts, wounds, and skin infections.  With 12 times the antiseptic power of phenol, it has some strong immune-building properties, which is why we included this one in our Magnificent 7!  One of the biggest threats to human skin is burnt!  Tea tree can be used to treat burns and bites.  Wash wound with a mixture of 1 drop of Lavender, Tea tree, and Basil added to warm water.  Or mix 1-2 drops of tea tree with 15ml of Fractionated coconut oil, and massage on infected locations, neck, arms, chest, or feet.  For a fungal infection apply neat to the affected area.  For Acne, wash the face daily with a mixture of 2 drops of tea tree with 250ml warm water.  Inhale tea tree when you are overcome with sneezing from grasses or pollens.

Lavender:  Known as the universal oil, Lavender has traditionally been known to balance the body and to work wherever there’s a need.  If in doubt, use Lavender.  It may also help with anxiety, arthritis, asthma, body systems balance, bronchitis, bruises, carbuncles, cold sores, earaches, fainting, gallstones, releive headaches, heart irregularity and even reduce high blood pressure.  Can be applied neat when used topically.  Apply directly on area of concern or to reflex points.  Diffuse or inhale the aroma directly.  Place 1-2 drops under the tongue, or take in capsules.  Can also be used in beverages or as a flavouring in cooking.  Lavender is generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for human consumption by the FDA (21CFR182.20).

Easy Air:  The Respiratory blend is one of those blends that has to be in everyone’s essential oil cabinet.  The top uses for this blend are Asthma/Bronchitis:  Diffuse using a standard aromatherapy diffuser, or inhale the aroma directly from the bottle.  If you are experiencing a cough, add 8 drops to 5ml of Fractionated coconut oil in a small roll-on bottle, and apply a small amount on the chest, back and forehead.  If you are congested, add 3-5 drops to a small bowl of hot water, and inhale the vapours.  For Sinusitis drop 2-3 drops on the floor of a hot shower, and inhale the aroma while showering.  Individual oils in this blend are:  Laurel Leaf, Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Tea tree, Lemon, Ravensara and Cardamom.

On Guard:  Also known as The Protective Blend.  The oils in this blend have been studied for their strong abilities to kill harmful bacteria, mould, and viruses.  This blend can be diffused into the air or be used to clean and purify household surfaces.  We use On Guard all the time, a few drops on a cleaning cloth and wiping around door handles, refrigerator doors, steering wheels, any surface or item that is handled by hands, we wipe On Guard on it!  Common uses for On Guard are Abscess (oral), Air pollution, Bladder infections, Cold sores, Colds, Coughs, Hypoglycemia, Infections, Lupus, Mould, Pneumonia, Scabies, Sore throat, Staph Infection, and even warts.  Oregano can be used on warts as well but with a carrier oil.  The individual oils in this blend are: Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata and Rosemary.  It’s a hot blend, warms the skin, so only use directly on the skin with a carrier oil to avoid irritation, as will all the essential oils, avoid scratching your eyes after using the oils.  If you accidentally get the essential oil in your eye, don’t wash out with water, instead, apply some milk or olive oil around the area, and dab with a soft towel.

We have put all these oils together in a 7 x 15ml Essential Oil kit, which you can purchase from this website.  Click on this link for more details.  * A quick note on ‘anger issues’, Peppermint has been mentioned as a scent to use when one is repressing anger, or in a state of agitation, due to the powerful strength of the aroma, and it’s ability to go deep into the olfactory nerve (highway to the brain through the nose), which ‘peps’ you up.  You can’t be angry when you have your mind changed with scent.  Remember this hint and apply Peppermint cautiously, not too close to the eyes.
